PARKS, RECREATION, AND CONSERVATION BOARD

 

OCTOBER MINUTES

 

 

Date:                           October 25, 2022 – The Stable 7:30pm   

 

Attendance:                 Present:  Chair R. Brooks, F. Mortimer, A. Chauvin, V. VanDyke, L. Kloak, P. Vagianos, D. Sayles

 

                                    Absent: W. Ryker, M. Mahmoud

Minutes:                      Minutes for September 2022 – were approved with motions made by F. Mortimer, A. Chauvin second motion. 

 

Fall Tree Planting:      N. Bigos shared that two bids went out in the spring for Central Business District tree planting and for residential plantings. The CBD planting will have 90 trees planted, the bid was awarded to Eastern Landscape Contractors. The residential planting was awarded to Downes Tree Service, they will be planting 192 trees in areas A, B, C and D.

 

BOE Facility

Scheduling Program:  R. Brooks shared that the Daysmart app was abandoned. The BOE has been in the process of creating a scheduling program/app. The app is called Master Library, all of the Village fields will be added to Master Library administered through BOE business office.

 

Parks & Rec

2023 Budget:              N. Bigos shared that $1,000,009.19 has been requested for the Capital Departmental 2023 budget. A new chipper truck, utility vehicles and a pickup were requested, a good deal of the Parks Division vehicles are aging.

 

Recreation:                  N. Bigos shared that our next session of programs will be for November and December. The winter brochure will be mailed within the next two weeks.

 

Healthbarn:                 N. Bigos shared the Healthbarn Chefs Table programs are held on one of either two nights of the week. Healing Meals is a fundraiser for cancer patients and their families at John Theurer Cancer Center in Hackensack. All of the families receive soups for children that are receiving cancer treatment.

 

Special Events:           N. Bigos shared downtown for the holidays will be held on Friday, December 2nd from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Elder Dinner will be held on Sunday, November 13th. The 40th Stable Anniversary will be held on Thursday, December 15th.

 

Parks App:                  N. Bigos shared that we are still waiting on Dylan from IT to set up a meeting to move forward with scheduling program.

 

Community Center:     N. Bigos shared the Nov/Dec Community Center brochure with the group

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Parks Update

 

Kings Pond Park:        N. Bigos – waiting on finalization for the diversion.

 

Green Acres

Diversion:                    N. Bigos – No update.

 

Schedler property:      N. Bigos – attending the Schedler onsite meetings held every other Wednesday with the Engineering Division and Manager’s Office. The HVAC is being finalized, paint colors are being selected. There is hope that the interior and exterior work for the house will be done by the end of this year. Parks and Recreation will be maintaining the building and park property in the future.

 

Citizens Park:              N. Bigos – receiving an upgraded parking lot with 21 parking spots.

 

CRPL Project:             N. Bigos – Conservancy for Ridgewood Public Lands has finished their project this year, the restoration of the North Broad Street garden.

 

New Business:            P. Vagianos shared a proposal from the American Legion that ended up being canceled.

 

Liaison Reports           Village Council – P. Vagianos

Board of Ed – M. Mahmoud

·       No report - absent

 

Open Space Committee – D. Sayles

·       No report – no report, no meeting this month.

 

Fields Committee – R. Brooks

·       R. Brooks discussed the field app. The soccer teams would like to review the light Ordinance.  

 

Shade Tree Commission – V. Van Dyke

·       V. Van Dyke reported about that the tree planting banner will be displayed. Tree planting will start in November.

 

                                   Community Center Advisory Board – L. Kloak  

·       L. Kloak reported that she will be helping at the Elder dinner.

 

                                    Green Ridgewood – F. Mortimer

·       F. Mortimer reported that the Master Plan was discussed.

 

Project Pride – N. Bigos

·       N. Bigos reported that the committee is waiting on a date for the dead plants to be taken care of. Parks department is working closely with them.
