More employee wellness programming will offered in months to follow.

As the U.S. Surgeon General's declaration that loneliness is the biggest public health threat in the country at this time.  To draw attention to this problem and develop ways to address it, The Community Chest of Eastern Bergen County is hosting a Summit on Combating the Loneliness Epidemic on Thursday, January 11, at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck.  This is geared primarily to service professionals. The Health Dept has a list of resources that was recently updated for a grant deliverable.  Support groups were not included in that list, but it can be updated to include this information.  Health Department can work on adding support groups to the resource list.

·       Jan shared an anecdote about someone she knows.  The individual doesn’t have family to spend the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday with.  She reached out to others who would be alone on Thanksgiving, and created a plan for all of them to celebrate together. Jan asked what we are doing for people who are alone to offer them a seat at the table.  Paul and Dawn agreed it was a great idea for an initiative to put energy behind.  How do we find people to open up a seat at their home table?  It is something to look into for next year or Christmas.  Dawn also noted the campaign could be simplified to a “reach out to your neighbor campaign” as a way to start small.  Paul to share the idea and plant the seed.

·       Sheila Brogan reported that peer counselors at the High School will be attending Mental Health First Aid training. She also noted that the Fall is busy time at the high school, which may be why there weren’t many Ridgewood participants in the walk.  Activities and schedules were also affected by the flooding and field issues.  On a different note, Sheila will be presenting on Medicare Part D on Tues 10/24 6:30 – 7:30 at the Library.

·       Danielle shared the Senior Health and Wellness Fair will be next Thurs 10/26 from 9:30am-12pm at Village Hall.  Currently, there are 18 exhibitors and Stephanie will be present for a meet and greet.  Danielle requested help with attendance. ·       It is also time to begin thinking about the Cards of Joy campaign. After reviewing dates of the winter holidays, it was decided that 11/1 would be the date to begin advertising and putting out the card collection boxes.  The Library was the location where most cards were collected.  The schools and youth groups, such as Girls Scouts, were wonderful at sending in cards.  There is a new teen room at the Library, as it was part of their renovation.  It was recommended to have card making supplies available to the teens in the Teen Room.

·       Surbhi gave an update on the new Covid booster.  On September 12, 2023, CDC recommended an updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine for everyone aged 6 months and older. Vaccination remains the best protection against severe illness, hospitalization, and even death.  The single dose booster can be administered at least 2 months after the last dose. If you’re 65 or older, you can now get a second updated COVID vaccine beginning 4 months after your first.  Also, if you have a weakened immune system, you can now get a second updated COVID vaccine beginning 2 months after your first dose. You can get more doses after that if your doctor recommends them. Everyone 5 yrs and older are considered up to date, once you receive one 2023-2024 Covid-19 vaccine.  Children aged 6month-5years are considered up to date, once they receive 3 doses, including at least one dose of the 2023-2024 Covid-19 vaccine. The vaccine is approved for 5 yrs and older. The vaccine is authorized for children 6mo – 4 yrs.  If you recently had COVID-19, you still need to stay up to date with your vaccines, but you may consider delaying your vaccine by 3 months. Covid-19 vaccine can be given simultaneously with other vaccines, such a flu, RSV, pneumonia, etc.  The only vaccine it should not be given in conjunction with is Jynneos or MPox vaccine. Mixing and matching of vaccine product (Moderna, Pfizer, Novovax, etc) is allowed with the booster, but it is advised not to switch product for the initial 2 dose series.  As the Public Health Emergency was declared over 5/11, the vaccines will now be billed to private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid, with no out-of-pocket expense to the patient.  If a patient is uninsured or underinsured, they can receive vaccine through from 317 and Bridge program providers.  As the Health Department is neither 317 nor Bridge provider, we will not be hosting any Covid-19 vaccine clinics.  Walgreens and CVS have been identified as the Bridge Program providers.
