UPDATED: Winter Storm Jonas

9:03 AM Jan 24:  Use Caution During Snow removal process.

5:50 PM - E-Notice

E-Notice: Winter Storm Jonas

Dear Residents,

Just wanted to provide you with a status as to where we stand in relation to the snow storm.

We have just received an updated weather forecast that indicates we will be experiencing heavy bands of snow through 8 PM with flurries following for several hours. The latest estimate for snow accumulation is between 20" - 28". Still of concern is the winds at gusts of 35-40 mph potentially creating drifts of upwards of 5'. It is therefore critical that you do not drive. Our Director of Operations, Rich Calbi, and myself drove around for several hours assessing the quality of the streets - although main streets looked really good we still need to address some of the secondary and tertiary roads. The last hour or so has been particularly difficult for the snow removal operation with poor visibility for our drivers so we need to do some catch up......we are in the process of shifting staffs to provide some rest for our folks who began very early this morning. Our intent is to work through the night and make every effort to have the business district cleaned up as early as possible tomorrow morning. The parking ban is in effect until further notice - we will lift as soon as we can after we complete snow removal.

Tomorrow we will concentrate on school routes and associated corners to insure safe driving conditions on Monday. We will handle other areas on Monday as part of our normal work week.

I want to thank residents for their cooperation during this event......it was clear that many many residents were not out driving and that many heeded the requirement to not park cars on the streets.

Stay safe and warm.......Best, Roberta

11:45 AM - Snow accumulation projected to 18 - 24 inches

11:15 - MSG from the Mayor: (Reverse Call)

Good morning.  This is Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn, and I'm calling to give you a quick update on the winter storm.

The Governor has declared a State of Emergency … and the National Weather Service has increased projected total snow accumulation in our area to 10"-15".  This includes heavy bands of snow.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect, which means that the roads are dangerous … the winds are strong … and you are urged to stay off the roads and stay at home.

Village crews and contractors have been out in full force with about 40 vehicles on the road.

On-street parking throughout the Village is prohibited until the streets are cleared or until further notice.  This is very important.  To effectively plow the roads, we need all cars off the streets.

Please check the Village website for storm-related updates … and please sign up for email notifications.  And to the extent possible and necessary, please check on your neighbors.

Thank you and be safe.
Paul S. Aronsohn, Mayor
Village of Ridgewood
