Inspections

TO SCHEDULE AN INSPECTIONS:

Construction work must be inspected as required by the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.18. The Building Department will conduct inspections as often as is necessary to insure that all work conforms to the approved plans and the regulations. Building Department office hours are Mondays through Fridays 8:30-4:30.

TO SCHEDULE  INSPECTIONS:  CALL 201-670-5500 ext. 5506 at least 24 hours in advance. Please include your permit number, type of inspection, worksite address, and callback number. Do not leave inspection requests on voicemail.

You may request morning or afternoon inspections and we will do our best to accommodate you. Scheduling is subject to availability. Inspections may be scheduled online by using the SDL Permit and Inspection Portal.

 REQUIRED INSPECTIONS FOR ALL SUBCODES:

*** Footings
*** Foundation prior to backfill
*** Slab
*** Insulation prior to covering
*** Sheathing;
*** Framing, prior to insulating and exterior covering, and only after rough plumbing and electrical inspection approvals have been given
*** Rough plumbing
*** Final plumbing 
*** Rough wiring
*** Final wiring
*** Fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and other fire protection systems

Inspections during the work are intended to cover structural framing and connections prior to covering with finish material; plumbing underground services, rough piping, water service, sewer or septic service, storm drains; electrical rough wiring, panels and service connections and installations; mechanical equipment, such as duct work and heating system piping; insulation prior to covering; underground fuel tanks and lines; gas or fuel oil distribution piping; and any other work hidden when the job is completed.

FINAL INSPECTIONS ARE REQUIRED for each subcode area in which a permit is issued: BUILDING ELECTRICAL PLUMBING FIRE

Final inspections are intended to cover installation of all wall, floor and ceiling finish materials; sealing of exterior joints; plumbing piping and fixture placement; electrical wiring, devices and fixture placement; all mechanical equipment; fire and life safety equipment, such as emergency lighting, exit signs, detectors and sprinklers.

APPROVED PLANS MUST BE KEPT ON THE JOB SITE AT ALL TIMES. IF THE INSPECTOR IS NOT ABLE TO REVIEW THE APPROVED PLANS ON THE JOB, THE INSPECTION WILL NOT BE CONDUCTED. The Construction Official or the subcode officials may require additional inspections.
