The Village of Ridgewood will hold a Public Information Center (PIC) to provide local residents and businesses with information on the Ridgewood Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Project.

You are encouraged to actively participate by providing comments at the meeting, by mail, or by e-mail.

THE MEETING

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for input on the project. The Public Information Center will be held in person at:

Please come at a time convenient for you. You will have an opportunity to review exhibits, ask questions and discuss any concerns with Village of Ridgewood representatives and their consultant. Property owners with rental units are advised that tenants are also invited and encouraged to participate.  If you are unable to participate or want to provide comments after the meeting, please visit the Village of Ridgewood website (https://www.ridgewoodnj.net) for information about the project and provide comments no later than August 26, 2021. 

PROJECT BACKGROUND  

The purpose of this project is to support Safe Routes to School (SRTS) safety and access improvements for students who walk and bike to school by connecting and improving sidewalks within the Village of Ridgewood including adding new sidewalk sections, reducing roadway widths to improve crosswalk safety, and installing driver feedback signs in select areas. The project Design and Construction cost is funded by federal funds administered through NJDOT Local Aid Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program.

PROPOSED PROJECT LIMITS AND IMPROVEMENTS

The proposed improvements are associated with the following elementary and middle schools within the Village of Ridgewood:

·   Willard Elementary

·   Ridge Elementary

·   Orchard Elementary

·   Travell Elementary

·   Somerville Elementary

·   Hawes Elementary

·   George Washington Middle School

·   Ben Franklin Middle School

Improvements are proposed on portions of the following roads:  Lincoln Avenue, Grove Street, Franklin Avenue, North Monroe Street, West Glen Avenue, East Glen Avenue, Bogert Avenue, Hickory Street, Northern Parkway, and Franklin Turnpike.

CULTURAL RESOURCES

Federal and State regulations pertaining to the protection of cultural resources, referred to, respectively, as the Section 106 and the New Jersey Register of Historic Places Act processes, require the Village of Ridgewood and NJDOT to take into account the effect of proposed projects upon cultural resources listed on, or eligible for listing on, the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places.  These processes require coordination between the NJDOT and the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office, along with other appropriate consulting and interested parties. Improvements in vicinity of the two following properties are anticipated:

·   Ackerman House, listed on National and State Register

·   Van Dien House, listed on National and State Register

please make a note of the comment period being extended an additional 2 weeks (9/10/21).

To be safe and demonstrate we fully reached out to stakeholders that were not comfortable to attend an in-person meeting during Covid, we should extend the comment period to allow for them to review the presentation.
