Born in the White Mountains of New Hampshire at Ellsworth in 1918, and raised by a mother whose published poetry was inspired by those splendid and treacherous mountains and streams. Allan Avery spent most of his life sketching and painting landscapes of the natural world. His paintings are imaginative and spontaneous, capturing the power and movement of nature, and have attracted the attention of art enthusiasts throughout the United States.
A highly accomplished watercolor artist, Allan was awarded the American Artist Medal of Honor in 1955 and won numerous art competitions in county, regional and statewide exhibitions in his native New York. An accomplished art instructor of watercolor, Allan stressed the basic technique of watercolor handling, as well as the effects of light on natural landscapes.
In 2014 Allan's family discovered a large collection of watercolor and oil paintings in his Pearl River studio, spanning sixty years from 1940's- late 1990's. Many of these were previously unknown to family, and have never been exhibited. We are excited to present these paintings for the first time, in Allan's Retrospective Exhibition along side the seminal works which gained him much respect in the Art Community.
Please join us at our Opening Reception honoring this exceptional man and his awe inspiring art work.
