PARKS, RECREATION, AND CONSERVATION BOARD

 

NOVEMBER MINUTES

 

 

Date:                           November 29, 2022 – The Stable 7:30pm   

 

Attendance:                 Present:  Chair R. Brooks, F. Mortimer, A. Chauvin, V. VanDyke, L. Kloak, P. Vagianos, D. Sayles, Brian Delatore

 

                                    Absent: W. Ryker, M. Mahmoud

 

                                    Also Present: Director N. Bigos, Office Assistant D. Kat

 

Public Comment &     

Correspondence:        Brian Dellatorre made suggestions and comments for Graydon Pool. They are listed below and on the attached email correspondence.

-        Resident seasonal badge holders ages 12-15 can attend without an adult if they have passed the deep water test.

-        No daily badge holders under age 16 without an adult.

-        Ridgewood is the only pool in the area that does not allow young teens without parents.

-        Possible for unaccompanied teens have access to Graydon from 1pm-7pm daily.

 

 

Minutes:                      Minutes for October 2022 – were approved with motions made by F. Mortimer,

D. Sayles second motion. 

 

Fall Tree Planting:      N. Bigos shared that both capital tree plantings are almost complete. There have been some challenges with utilities in the CBD, these sites are being negotiated with the contractor. Downes is almost complete with the 192 residential plantings and the public is pleased.

 

Recreational

Facilities, Graydon:     N. Bigos requested that the PRC Board help with brainstorming ideas for Graydon and our other recreational facilities.

                                    P. Vagianos requested that the group share different ideas in order to solicit a full compliment of full time lifeguard staff at Graydon.

                                    Conversations about different options for finding lifeguards for Graydon. All suggestions will be looked into.

 

Memorials within

Municipal Properties:  N. Bigos shared that there are currently 22 memorials, 32 benches and 68 trees for a total of 122 dedications in our parks. Linda McNamara’s Grove was discussed. Due to the success of the Memorial program, the parks are overcrowded with memorials.

                                    F. Moritz will assemble a sub-committee.  A motion was made to research the topic further and report findings back to the PRC Board.                  

                                   

2023 Staffing

Needs:                       

 

Recreation:                  The winter brochure was mailed out.

 

Healthbarn:                 No update.

 

Special Events:           N. Bigos shared Downtown for The Holidays will be held on Friday, December 2nd from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. Elder Dinner was a huge success. Invitations for the 40th Stable Anniversary were mailed.

 

Technology Items:      N. Bigos shared that the team needs to meet with the BOE to discuss options to add Village of Ridgewood recreational fields to the Master Library. The Village went to paperless payroll a few weeks ago. This will affect the summer staff.

 

Community Center:     No update.

 

 

 Parks Update

 

Schedler property:      N. Bigos – met with Connolly and Hickey and showed the group the 3 options for the interior paint. Colors, appliances, lighting and other amenities were agreed upon.

 

Citizens Park:              N. Bigos – No update.

 

New Business:            F. Mortimer and L. Kloak volunteered for the Memorial trees/benches sub-committee.

 

Liaison Reports           Village Council – P. Vagianos           

·       public meeting on November 30th. December 7th and 14th are the last meetings for the year.

 

Board of Ed – M. Mahmoud

·       No report - absent

 

Open Space Committee – D. Sayles

·       No report

 

Fields Committee – R. Brooks

·       R. Brooks shared the Field Scheduling Program was discussed. Daysmart is canceled, the BOE Master Library app is active and it will be used for field scheduling. The field lighting was discussed. A sub-committee met to change the Fields Policy for lighting. All will be presented to the Fields Committee.

 

Shade Tree Commission – V. Van Dyke

·       V. Van Dyke reported that the planting was discussed. Gator bags will be put on in the spring. They need to update the term policy for the Shade Tree Commission. They want it to be a 3 year term.

 

                                   Community Center Advisory Board – L. Kloak  

·       L. Kloak reported that the Elder Dinner was a success. Anchor tax rebate was discussed.

 

                                    Green Ridgewood – F. Mortimer

·       F. Mortimer reported that the tree planting was discussed. Leaf blower ordinance is being worked on.

 

Project Pride – N. Bigos

·       No report
